‚On mine action in Ukraine‘ law registered by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, the media informs

The Ukrainian media, namely the online sources Korespondent and Argumenty i facty inform that the draft of the law ‘On mine action in Ukraine’ has been prepared and submitted by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. This law is to draw the public attention to the issue of Donbass demining as well as to provide for its immediate consideration by the special-purpose committee of the Verkhovna Rada and afterwards, its adoption by the members of the Parliament. The law itself is only the first step towards the development of an infrastructure which will help to carry out effective anti-mine activities in the east of Ukraine in the nearest future.

We would like to stress once again upon the fact that this legislation is of non-political nature and it is aimed at saving the lives of peaceful citizens. Other countries of the world also faced the issue of humanitarian demining, thus, the international community has particular established means as to its conducting. All that Ukraine needs is to take advantage of the foreign experience and assistance, so that it could once again make the territories which suffered from military actions safe for peaceful residents to live on. However, the first step towards accomplishing this aim will be reestablishing the Ukrainian legislation so that it met the international standards.

Despite the fact that all available mine engineer groups which are under control of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and the State Emergency Service of Ukraine are currently involved in the east of Ukraine, there is still much more to be done there. They are strongly assisted by the international organizations, however, until the law ‘On mine action in Ukraine’ is adopted, these organizations are still going to remain outside observers performing the functions of securing and training. After the abovementioned legislation has come into force, the international partners will be able to directly participate in mine action on the territory of Donbass.
